Mr M.Van Lier

From the Headteacher.

Welcome to Haven High Academy. You have made an excellent choice!

Moving to secondary school can be a very stressful time in your life. In addition to the recent lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we understand that you may be more than a little bit anxious about your move.

We want you to know we are here to help.

This section of the website is designed to let you know how we do things at Haven High Academy. From our vision and our values, to our house system and the academic work we deliver. We hope this helps you to understand a little bit of who we are and what we believe in.

Attached you will also find booklets linked to the website content for you to work through. As you work through the booklet there will be a few questions and tasks for you to do which will help you identify our key staff, the school and what we stand for. We have also produced a separate booklet of academic work to help consolidate what you have learned at primary school and show you the kind of work we deliver here at secondary school.

I have high expectations of my staff and I have high expectations of the students. We want you to aspire to be the best person you can be. We understand you might not know what the future holds, but when the time comes, we will provide you with the tools to make your dreams come true.

We hope you enjoy learning about our wonderful Academy.

What are the main things that worry you about secondary school?

You may have some worries about the move from year 6 to year 7. The intent of this transition website is to provide you with the information and the confidence to join us feeling more at ease about the next step in your education.

We asked Chloe C – Class of 24(Y7) about her time first year with us at Haven High Academy.

Hi Chloe, can you tell us how you felt before you came to Haven High Academy?

To start with I was kind of nervous because I had one friend from the transition week. I felt a little scared also because I didn’t know any of the teachers.

What in particular were you nervous and scared about Chloe?

I was really nervous about making friends and getting to know the new teachers. I was also scared that the work would be too hard for me. But it turned out I was more clever than I thought – and when I was doing well in my classes I was moved up 5 forms. That changed my perspective and made me believe in myself a whole lot more.

How did you find your first few weeks at Tollfield campus?

I found them really exciting, challenging and fun. On the first day it was a little bit hard, because I didn’t really know anyone at the school. However, the teachers were really nice, fair and in this time I found my best friend who I have now.

So on reflection how do you look back on your time at Tollfield campus in Year 7?

I LOVED IT! I am a Form Ambassador, I have a large group of friends and I really enjoyed the school work. The teachers challenge us more with their work which I loved. So yes, I really, really enjoyed this journey so far!
