Post-16 Options and Pathways
The choices after Year 11 (Post 16) are:
- Study at a Sixth Form
- Study at a College of Further Education
- An Apprenticeship
- Armed Forces
- Employment - although some form of continued training must be attached to the offer of employment to comply with the raising of the participation age*.
- New T- Levels (Technical qualifications) have been launched, delivered mainly by colleges.
*Raising of participation Age
Raising the participation age means you must continue in education or training until you are 18. It does not mean you must stay in school; you can choose one of the following options:
- Full-time education, such as school, college or learning provider.
- Work-based learning, such as an apprenticeship or traineeship.
- Part-time education or training if you are employed, self-employed or volunteering for 20 hours or more a week.
During the Autumn term, we invite a range of local post-16 providers into the Academy to speak to students. Details of our provider access statement can be found on the main page.
You should consider the full range of providers and courses to help you make the best decision for your future. We encourage you to explore the websites of other providers, where they will find information about open events and courses available. Additional support is available from the Careers centre, including application support and provider information.
