A warm welcome to Haven High Academy

I am privileged to introduce myself as the Head of Haven High Academy and take my responsibility for educating other people’s children extremely seriously.  Our core purpose is to provide students with a world class education to ensure that they enter the world of work or higher education with the required skills to be successful.  We care passionately about each individual member of the Academy community and take great pride in working together as a team to ensure individual success is achieved.

Update From the Headteacher

I just wanted to take the opportunity to update you on progress at Haven High Academy during these very challenging times. As usual our key priority is the safety of our students and to that end, we have reluctantly followed medical advice and closed our doors to students except for those from Key Worker households.

We have said goodbye to the Class of 20 who “graduated” rather earlier than expected but continue to work with Ofqual and the Department for Education to ensure that their grades are a fair representation of their academic progress when published in July. In addition, as promised the prom will be rescheduled as a “Co 20 Reunion” when we are able.

We could see how COVID-19 was developing around the world and how it could lead to the closure of our academy. We initiated our VIPER team and established a strategy to relocate the classroom to the student’s home by developing an online learning platform around 365 Teams, Class Charts, GCSE Pod, just to name a few.  When our doors closed on Friday 20 March, we were able to provide a full live streamed lesson timetable to the Co 21 by Monday 23 March and to the Co22 by Monday 30 March. We estimate that  staff are currently delivering more than 7,700 live lessons direct to the students each week, when the Co 23 & Co24 join after the Easter holidays that number will rise to 17,500 live streamed lessons each week, that is a truly amazing statistic.

If you have any IT issues please go to the HHA website, go to Important Academy Updates and log them on Remote Learning Support – staff are monitoring this and will respond as soon as possible.

During the first week of closure we have provided Free School Meal vouchers to the value of £4,500 and are continually looking at how to make that system easier to deliver, particularly through an electronic credit on your mobile phone, more detail to follow in due course.

We have provided on call support for both safeguarding (07942 542 475) and mental health (07942 542 466).

Please feel free to contact Reception on our usual number 01205311 979 during the hours of 09:30 and 15:30 daily who will be able to redirect you questions appropriately.

In summary we would like to send you all our sincere best wishes, stay safe indoors, continue to learn and we will update you daily via Face Book.
